About Me
I have a deep passion for science, research, education and the arts. While many think that these fields are separate, for me they are inextricably linked, particularly in relation to effective communication of complex ideas and education. For example, research has shown, that just as our ancestors did, we learn better through stories and story telling. As well, all of these fields require discovery, creativity and exploration or a willingness to try different things. This has led me to do many things in my career, including the completion of degrees in theatre, science and education. Most recently completing my PhD in Ecology.
However, it always comes back to science for me, or more specifically the science of ecology, where we ponder the diversity of life around us, and how it came to be. Whether I am telling a story about biodiversity, sketching it or researching it, I can’t remember a time when I was not fascinated by the amazing plants and animals where I grew-up and still live in subtropical Brisbane, Australia.
Currently I am an Associate Lecturer in Ecology, at Griffith University. Prior to this I have held a range of jobs in the Queensland State and Local governments which aimed to reduce the environmental impacts of people on nature.
